The day of March 12th, 2007 saw a new cultural building --Yuexiu Library being formally introduced to the public people. Adhering to the new concept , Yuexiu Library has been an all-new cultural window of Guangzhou, becoming a public book-club and spiritual garden loved by all the readers.

    After the adjustment of administrative divisions of Guangzhou in 2005, Yuexiu District Committee and Government input more than 20,000,000 Yuan to convert the original Dongshan District Office building into our Yuexiu Library, letting more people have a chance to enjoy the rich and affordable cultural feast. What’s more,Guangzhou Municipal Propaganda Department also invested 3,000,000 yuan to support the construction of the new library.

    Yuexiu Library holds over 476,000 volumes (including all the main and branch libraries). Having more than 10,000 square meters of buildings, Yuexiu Library can not only give readers a theme library --the Education Library, which contains all kinds of educational books, magazines, electronic resources, audio-visual materials and so on, but also various reading areas divided according to the functions of the volumes (such as newspapers, children's literature, literature and art, comprehensive literature, Taiwan literature, visually impaired reading material) and multimedia audio-visual service areas, electronic reading areas, animation zones, parent-child worlds, green network Parks etc. As long as the readers click the mouse, they can enjoy traveling in an ocean of knowledge which concludes 360,000 electronic books, 7,200 electronic journals, and 500 electronic newspapers.

    The good news is that Guangdong Provincial Propaganda Departmenthas established an impressive art forum about Lingnan literature here. Moreover, a great number of cultural celebrities have come here to share lectures, spread advanced culture, deliver the latest thinking and communicate with readers with wonderful thoughts and interactions, such as Wang Meng (a literary master),Hu Yihu (a famous Phoenix TV presenter)and Liu Sifen (a Mao Dun prize winner).
